At the beginning of the chapter, Jane talks about how she start her year of meats and why meat is the messages. She was asked to translate English to Japanese. My American Wife is a weekly show which shows the family of the week and at the end of the show, they have to cook their home-made beef.
The first wife for the show is Suzie Flowers and her husband, Fred. They made a Coca-Cola Roast for the show and Akiko had learned to make it for dinner as asked by "John", her husband. John wanted to fatten Akiko and that's why he wants her to eat meat. Besides cooking the meet of the week, she have to fill in the questionnaire at the same time because John was the one who suggested this show and he wants to know the ratings.
